2025 Ram 1500 Engine Specs
Whether you crave thundering power, excellent fuel efficiency, or a blend of the two, the 2025 Ram 1500 engine lineup has something for everyone. The 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine is a strong base engine option, with 305 horsepower and up to 26 MPG on the highway. Next up, the new 3.0L Hurricane inline six-cylinder (I6) boosts horsepower output to 420. Step up to the high-output variant of the 3.0L Hurricane I6 for 540 horsepower. Both of these new Hurricane engines feature twin turbochargers.

2025 Ram 1500 Engine Differences
While performance specs may top the list of differences between the 2025 Ram 1500 engines, there’s more to consider. Beyond sheer power, other factors could make one engine a better fit for your needs. From trim availability to unique performance-enhancing components, keep reading to learn more about these differences.
2025 Ram 1500 High-Output 3.0L Hurricane Engine
Trim Availability: RHO®, Limited, Limited Longhorn®, Tungsten
Top Engine For: Horsepower and torque
Key Differences: Top-of-the-line power awaits with the high-output 3.0L Hurricane I6 engine. All senses are engaged with this engine, not only because of its 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque, but because of its trim availability. The all-new, super-premium Tungsten exclusively features this engine, as does the new and rugged RHO model. The high-output of the Hurricane engine is electronically limited to slightly higher revolutions per minute than its standard-output counterpart. Because of the trims it is equipped with, the high-output Hurricane is exclusively available with a 4x4 drivetrain.
2025 Ram 1500 3.0L Hurricane Engine
Trim Availability: Tradesman®, Big Horn®, Warlock, Laramie®, Rebel®
Top Engine For: Towing capacity
Key Differences: When you’re ready to work, the standard-output 3.0L Hurricane engine is the powerhouse to pick. Leverage its 469 pound-feet of torque to tow up to 11,550 pounds when properly equipped. Like its high-output sibling, the Hurricane is a roaring twin-turbo. Though its city fuel economy doesn’t quite rival that of the Pentastar V6, its 25-MPG highway fuel economy falls a single mile per gallon short of matching the V6. This is also the only engine available on the new Warlock trim, as well as the premium Laramie and rugged Rebel trims. If you’re looking for superb towing power, but want a more essentials-focused trim, this engine is also available on the Tradesman or Big Horn models.
2025 Ram 1500 3.6L Pentastar V6 Engine
Trim Availability: Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn
Top Engine For: Fuel economy and payload
Key Differences: Several different components help set the Pentastar V6 engine apart from its Hurricane counterparts. A fundamental difference is cylinder orientation — it’s a V6 compared with an I6. It’s also naturally aspirated with a larger displacement, while both Hurricane engines have a twin-turbo setup. And it revs just slightly higher than the high-output Hurricane. Another difference is its eTorque mild hybrid system made up of a 48-volt hybrid battery and a 9-kilowatt belt-starter generator that delivers 90 pound-feet of torque upon initial acceleration. You’ll notice the hybrid difference around town, too, as this engine gets up to 20 MPG in city driving with the Tradesman HFE trim. If you need to load up heavy cargo, the Pentastar engine offers a 2,370-pound payload capacity.
